This test is made for indicating the soil strength parameters and calculating to be formed settlement under the groundwork by exploiting the stress-strain relations to the soft rock and the rock (dilatometer) unit. The test, a probe, that is a cylinder and can be inflated with gas into the 2 edges and water into the middle, is inflated in the borehole. During this process, liquid amount and pressure in the probe, is measured and recorded at each stage during the test. The soil’s stress-deformation curve is obtained from making theoretical calculations using liquid amount and pressure.
The parameters of the soil’s durability, deformation characteristic, compactibility, permeability, etc are essential for geotechnical researches and practices. Especially clays that are hard to take samples and rocks that are weathered fractured and soft, are applied.
